#water2me Art Contest

Water means different things to different people … and kids, we want to see what it means to you!

Children in pre-kindergarten through grade 5 are invited in participate in the District’s #water2me Contest, which celebrates World Water Day on March 22. To participate, elementary school-aged children in the District’s service area are encouraged to create an original art piece that shows what water means to them.

Winners will be displayed on digital billboards around Madison for World Water Day.

Contest is open to all children grades PK-5 who are attending public, private, parochial and home schools in Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District’s service area. See map here.

The area generally includes:

  • Fitchburg
  • Madison
  • Middleton
  • Monona
  • Verona
  • Cottage Grove
  • Dane
  • DeForest
  • Maple Bluff
  • McFarland
  • Shorewood Hills
  • Waunakee
  • Windsor
  • Artwork must be an original work of the student.
  • Students must be currently enrolled in grades PK-5.
  • Artwork is limited to one entry per student.
  • Artwork can be any medium that can be displayed visually on a billboard, including but not limited to drawings, paintings, mixed media/collages, original digital creations, etc.
  • Each piece of art must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian of the student, or by a teacher with the consent of the parent or legal guardian. If a teacher is submitting a student’s artwork, a signed permission form must be submitted with the artwork.

Artwork must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. CST Friday, March 12. Entries must be submitted using this #water2me webpage. If you are a teacher who would like to submit a student’s artwork, you will need to have a parent/guardian complete this consent form and include the signed form when submitting art work.

For consideration, entries must be original and showcase what water means to the young artist; entries that are off-topic, contain inappropriate or copyrighted material, lack consent from a parent or guardian, or otherwise do not comply with these rules will not be considered.

All Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District staff will vote on submitted artwork that meets the above-stated criteria; the top 5 vote-getters will be declared the winners. Parents of the winners will be contacted via email on Thursday, March 18. The winners will be shared on the District’s social media accounts starting on Friday, March 19.

Winning submissions will be displayed to the public on digital billboards in the Madison area through Blip Billboards. Madison billboard locations can be found here.

All submissions may be posted to the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn on and around World Water Day, March 22.

Terms & Conditions

The child’s parent or guardian must agree to the following terms and conditions.

Original Artwork
The artwork submitted, including text and illustrations, and any ancillary material must be made only by the child indicated on the entry form and must not be copied from another work, photograph, illustration, or website. The artwork submitted must not infringe upon any third party intellectual property rights nor contain any material that is defamatory, vulgar, or otherwise inappropriate.

Compensation
Submitted artwork may be displayed on the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District’s social media accounts, including on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn on and around World Water Day, March 22, 2021.

Winning submissions will also be publicly displayed on digital billboards in the Madison area through Blip Billboards.

No compensation of any kind will be paid by the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District or any of its authorized third parties to collect, use, reproduce, publish, distribute, or display publicly the submission, any ancillary material, or personal information as provided for in this agreement.

Third Parties
The submitted artwork and personal information may be publicly displayed by third parties, including Blip Billboards, with the permission and at the discretion of Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District.

Release
By submitting an entry in the 2021 Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District #water2me Art Contest, the child’s parent or legal guardian agrees that the submitted artwork, including text and illustrations, and any ancillary material will become the property of the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District. The child’s parent or legal guardian also consents to the collection, use, reproduction, publication, distribution, or public display of the child’s submitted artwork and the personal information provided with the entry. The child’s parent or legal guardian understands that Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District may distribute the submission through a variety of media, including billboards, websites, social media applications, and any other means. The child’s parent or legal guardian unconditionally releases the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District, its employees, agents, representatives, and authorized third parties from any and all claims and demands arising therefrom.
