In fall 2019, the District partnered with the Design V class at UW-Madison’s School of Human Ecology to imagine the possibilities for Shop One’s physical space design and layout. This capstone class for college seniors pursuing an interior design or architecture degree provides students the opportunity to collaborate with design professionals in a variety of real-world environments from health care and offices to hospitality and retail. Students follow the design process from programming to construction documents, and address all aspects of designing an interior project in detail.
The designs produced as part of this studio-based class were presented in December 2019 at the Ruth Davis Design Gallery. For the District, the designs sparked ideas, generated excitement, and possibly informed future direction as the District develops Shop One programming and capital improvement projects in years to come.
